Sisters the Musical was an original musical produced by Kate Canning at the dlr Mill Theatre, written and directed by Tracy Ryan with musical direction by Kaeylea B. VanKeith. The action focused on the fictional story of three sisters set against the backdrop of the Irish Women’s Liberation movement. The script called for a multitude of settings, the most important of which being both the Boland household and Gaj’s restaurant which was the centre of the movement. The large cast as well, as the need for plenty of space for dance numbers, meant the set needed to be highly adaptable with easy to move set pieces and props. The need for projection influenced the design of the backdrop both in its style and the gradient of the wallpaper.
