Returning to design in my alma mater The Lir was a wonderful experience, particularly as it was Loughlin Deegan’s final year as the school’s Director. As I had designed two productions in Studio Two during my MFA I was particularly aware of the space’s limitations. The director Annabelle Comyn and myself were interested in creating a wide lobby space with the exterior world creating the backdrop inspired by Andreas Gursky’s series of photos entitled ‘doormen’ as well as long exposure city photography. Working with the in house team as well as the students themselves was a very rewarding experience and a great chance to work with the next generation of theatre makers!
