‘Our Place’ exhibition took place in the RHA in September and The Kerry County Museum in October 2024. The exhibition was the culmination of a socially engaged art project in collaboration with Saint John of God Community Services. The project was led by AlanJames Burns and Sinead McCann and championed the human rights of people living with intellectual disabilities by creating access to cultural expression and cultural spaces. Full credits for all artists involved below.
‘Our Place’ was a multi-sensory installation that explores themes of happiness, human rights, and belonging. The installation features an immersive sound artwork played through 10 speakers, a vibrant neon artwork, and tactile light artworks. Exhibition accessibility additionally included Lámh sign language video, braille, audio and captioned descriptions. My task was creating a space that responded to the artists involved, considering not only their needs but what they believed Our Place was all about. The exhibition featured distinct sensory areas with both group and individual seating to allow people to enjoy the exhibition together in whichever way they felt most comfortable.
